Milpark Business School

Disabled Students

As a provider of higher education, Milpark Business School is wholly committed to assisting persons with disabilities to realise their academic abilities and obtain a qualification despite the challenges their disabilities may present to them. Milpark has had several students with a variety of disabilities registered on our programmes and has always ensured that our facilitators, lectures and materials are able to accommodate their diverse needs.

By listening to the students, and understanding their needs, Milpark has, among other things, appointed scribes for cerebral palsied individuals; employed full-time interpreters for classroom sessions for deaf learners; produced large font materials for the visually impaired and acquired Jaws software for blind learners. In addition, we endeavour to ensure that all our venues – whether our own or those we use for training sessions elsewhere – are easily accessible to those with physical disabilities requiring wheelchairs or other walking aids.

Every MBS text book includes the information below in the Student Note:

Students with special needs

Students with special needs should inform Milpark Business School of their specific requirements upon date of registration. All requests need to be supported by Medical Certificates. The requests will be referred to the Academic Committee and only once confirmation has been received from the Academic Committee arrangements can be made to support students with special requirements.

Blindness and visual impairment

Visually impaired students will be issued with course material/assessments according to their needs; either printed using enlarged print or provided in electronic format for use on student’s own computer. Such students will be required to give an undertaking that the material will not be distributed in any way to another person/s. Examination papers are printed in Braille, or enlarged print format. Where possible, a separate examination venue may be arranged.

Serious chronic diseases or medical conditions

Special examination venues may be arranged for students who suffer from serious chronic diseases or medical conditions such as paraplegia, quadriplegia, epilepsy, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, neurological disorders, etc. The student may be granted additional time in which to complete the examinations.

Physically disabled students

All Milpark Business School venues have special facilities for students with physical disorders such as paraplegia and quadriplegia. Should learners have any special requirements in terms of venue facilities, additional time required for examination sessions, it should be brought to the attention of Milpark Business School upon registration in order to allow for sufficient time to make the necessary arrangements.

We are confident that we will be able to assist any motivatedstudent to succeed in his or her studies, and value the input of all our learners into the support we provide.
