History of Milpark Business School
Milpark Business School (Pty) Ltd was established in 1997 and since 2007 has been registered as an independent Private Higher Education Institution with the Department of Education. Our registration number is 2007/HE07/003. We are a leading provider of quality innovative and entrepreneurial business programmes. In the latest national rankings of business schools (Financial Mail, August 2008), MBS was placed in the top three for operations and human resources.
Change of Ownership
Milpark Business School (Pty) Ltd was owned previously by Media 24 and was sold during 2008 to the Directors of the Damelin School of Banking and Insurance. Milpark Business School is now an independent provider of higher education, with the right to confer its own qualifications and is no longer operating under the auspices of any other provider.
What does this mean for MBS?
- An extended range of programmes offered.
- A significant elevation of the Business School’s profile especially in the Financial Services sector.
- The Melville campus becoming a hive of academic activity, after extensive refurbishment.
- A commitment to providing a professional environment for a positive teaching and learning experience at the Business School.
- In regulatory terms, DSBI’s programmes will be phased out over a defined period of time (this is called a teach-out) and all DSBI students will have the choice of whether to complete their qualifications as DSBI students or articulate (transfer) to Milpark Business School.
- With the addition of the previous Damelin School of Banking and Insurance programmes, Milpark Business School also extended its physical reach into the Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Milpark Business School kept its Melville home, and added two sites, one in Claremont, Cape Town, and another in Durban. The Melville and Claremont sites are HE and FET sites, while Durban offers only FET.
What does this mean for the DSBI student?
In regulatory terms, DSBI's programmes will be phased out over a defined period of time (this is called a teach-out). If you are already a DSBI student, you will be able to choose whether you want to remain a DSBI student (within certain prescribed time limits or whether you want to articulate (transfer) to Milpark Business School.
The status of your qualification will remain the same. The programme and the modules you registered for will remain unchanged. The change will be to the certificate you receive: whether it will be a Damelin School of Banking and Insurance or a Milpark Business School certificate.
If you decide to stay with the DSBI certification you will receive the same Damelin certificate you would have received when you registered with us at the beginning of your qualification.
If you wish to articulate to the Milpark Business School (MBS) certificate you may do so. The most significant difference will be that when you graduate, you will graduate with the same programme, but you will receive a Milpark Business School certificate.
What are the benefits of the acquisition of MBS?
Most importantly, MBS is now an independent, registered Higher Education Institution that will certificate its qualifications in its own right. MBS will also now offer all our students and clients a more complete range of programmes. In Higher Education, we start with several certificate programmes at NQF level 5 and build up to a Master in Business Administration (MBA) at NQF Level 8.
