Study Permits
If you are not a South African citizen or do not have permanent residence status in South Africa you would need to apply for a study permit for Milpark Business School (MBS). As international applicant you are required to apply for admission to MBS first. If your application is successful, a letter of admission status (conditional/provisional) will be sent to you, after which you may apply for a study permit for MBS. You may apply for a study permit from the South African Embassy or South African Mission in your country or at any Home Affairs Office in South Africa.
For more detailed information, we suggest you contact the South African Diplomatic Mission nearest to you.
Exceptions
Short/extra curricular courses
- If the full duration of the short/extra curricular course you intend to pursue at MBS is shorter than 3 months, you only need to be in possession of a Visitors' Permit.
- However, if the full course runs over a period longer than 3 months and has to be attended at regular intervals every few months in South Africa, you need to be in possession of a valid Study Permit for MBS.
- If you are currently in South Africa on a Work Permit you will need to have this Permit endorsed by a local Home Affairs Office for study as a secondary purpose.
- If any MBS classes are presented in your own country a study permit would not be applicable.
Medical/Health Cover
Please note that the Department of Health in South Africa stipulates very urgently that all international students who wish to study at a South African institute for higher education are required to have health cover. You are advised to take out a medical cover policy preferably in South Africa, which will cover ALL medical costs while you are in South Africa for the study period. Please take careful note of the conditions of your medical insurance coverage as to whether you should be admitted to state hospitals or private hospitals/clinics. Since a hospital plan excludes most medical expenses, a hospital plan only will not be acceptable. The International Office can advise you on a company who specialises in medical cover specifically for international students. The cost of a local medical cover for one year varies.
Exceptions
Short/extra curricular courses
* If the full duration of the course you intend to pursue at MBS is shorter than 3 months, it is recommended that you have some kind of medical cover for the duration of your stay in South Africa.
Please Note: By law, MBS may not register any foreign student without the correct study permit for MBS and proof of medical cover.
